subpage

The 2012 CanAmMex Regatta, hosted by Mexico, will take place July 16-22 at the National Sports Commission facilities in Mexico City. Training will occur July 16-20 with racing July 21-22. Events to be contested are the 8+, 4+, 2-, 4x, 2x and 1x for both men and women. The CanAmMex roster will consist of 10-12 rowers and a coxswain to compete in all of the events over two days of racing.

The CanAmMex Regatta serves two purposes. First, to bring together Canada, the United States and Mexico’s top developmental junior athletes, coxswains and coaches for friendly, yet high-level competition. Secondly, this regatta provides a life opportunity for its participants and serves as a cultural experience. For some, CanAmMex will be an important step in development toward potential future U.S.
Junior National Team, Under 23 and Senior National Team opportunities.

This year the CanAmMex team that will represent the US in Mexico City will be selected from a pool of athletes whose primary focus is sculling and have been identified from camps and racing results. These athletes will be brought together for 2-4 weeks of selection and development in New Milford, CT, Seattle, WA and Verona, PA as part of the established USRowing Junior Development program. Invited athletes will begin camp in mid-June and beginning in July athletes will be selected to one of three (3) possible teams; World Championship Team (Bulgaria), HP-Team (Germany), and the CanAmMex-Team (Mexico). Those not selected for one of these teams will either return home to compete with their clubs for the summer or to train for Jr Trials and/or summer racing in New Milford.
