2011 CanAmMex Regatta

The 2011 CanAmMex Regatta, hosted by Canada, will take place August 8-12 at the Welland International Flatwater Centre in Welland, Ontario. Training will occur August 8-10, with racing August 11-12. Events to be contested are the 8+, 4+, 2-, 4x, 2x and 1x for both men and women. The CanAmMex roster will consist of eight designated sweep rowers and coxswain to compete in the sweep events and four scullers to compete in the sculling events for each gender.

The CanAmMex Regatta serves two purposes. First, to bring together Canada, the United States and Mexico’s top developmental junior athletes, coxswains and coaches for friendly, yet high-level competition. Secondly, this regatta provides a life opportunity for its participants and serves as a cultural experience. For many, CanAmMex will be an important step in development toward potential future U.S. Junior National Team, Under 23 and Senior National Team opportunities.

This year, athletes will be selected using the USRowing Club National Championships as the qualifying event. Teams winning the junior eight or junior quadruple sculls events, for junior men or women, will earn the right to represent the U.S. at the 2011 CanAmMex International Regatta. The winning team in each of the designated events will have first right-of-refusal. If the winning team elects not to go, the opportunity will be afforded to the second place team. Teams electing to go will be responsible for final athlete and coach selection and will be required to name them by August 1, 2011.

Each team participating in the CanAmMex Regatta will be responsible for all of its own costs associated with the trip including travel, room and board, equipment and uniform(s). The Canadian Organizing Committee has made arrangements for accommodation at Niagara College (10-minute drive from rowing course). Cost is $69/night for a two-bedroom suite with kitchenette and bathroom. If you are interested, you will need to contact Niagara College to confirm number of rooms and make payment arrangements immediately following USRowing Club National Championships.
