PRINCETON, N.J. – USRowing is proud to support Rowing For Autism 2012, scheduled for April 21 in Port Washington, N.Y. The event is hosted by Port Rowing Club at Port Washington and co-sponsored by Town of North Hempstead.
“Rowing For Autism brings awareness to the issue with the increased incidence of autism and also the issues concerning this condition and the challenges of the families dealing with adolescents and teenagers with autism,” said Port Rowing Club Executive Director and Head Coach Steve Panzik.
“We have eight schools and over 500 competitors, with a few national sponsors including Arizona Ice Tea and Muscle Milk. We hope that this event raises $50,000. This will allow the purchase of three more boats and also the ability to offer subsidies for the program and camps to parents who express financial hardship.”
Currently, Port Rowing is piloting an adaptive rowing program to serve adolescents and teenagers with disabilities, offering camps for students with a mentoring component to give rowers the opportunity to shadow and mentor one of the participants in the program.
“USRowing is excited to help promote this worthy cause and support the efforts of a member organization in our rowing community,” said USRowing CEO Glenn Merry.
