PRINCETON, N.J. – USRowing and the Schuylkill Navy are pleased to announce that the 2015 USRowing Annual Convention will be held December 3-6 in Philadelphia, Pa.

The four-day event includes the Advanced Coaches Conference featuring top U.S. and international coaches; a Business of Rowing seminar and panel discussion with athletic program administrators; America Rows diversity, adaptive and inclusion programming; coaching certification; referee clinics; and a Junior Day series geared toward rowers and parents, in addition to receptions and local social events.

The Schuylkill Navy – the governing body of rowing in Philadelphia, where USRowing was once headquartered – will serve as the local organizing committee and will be supported by the Philadelphia Sports Congress, which has donated $10,000 towards the event.

“USRowing is very pleased to partner with the Schuylkill Navy in returning to the city of Philadelphia for our national convention in 2015,” said USRowing Chief Executive Officer, Glenn Merry. “The roots of USRowing are at number 4 Boathouse Row and generations of Philadelphia leaders and volunteers helped shape the success and popularity that rowing enjoys today.

“The 2015 convention is a transformative opportunity to influence, educate and strengthen coaches, officials and administrators in the sport for future generations. We are proud to bring this event to Philadelphia and thank the Philadelphia Sports Congress and the Schuylkill Navy for their support and partnership.”

The Hyatt Regency Philadelphia at Penn’s Landing will serve as the host hotel. Located on the waterfront along the Delaware River, the hotel is within walking distance of Old City and Society Hill and some of the best restaurants and historical sites the city has to offer, including Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell.

Philadelphia has a rich rowing history and picturesque Boathouse Row, with its lighted boathouses located along the Schuylkill River on Kelly Drive, is an iconic and unique site to visit.

"This is such wonderful news in a year of wonderful events,” said Schuylkill Navy Commodore Margaret Meigs. “This spring we announced USRowing's sponsorship of the Schuylkill Navy's regattas. We have seen expansive growth in our regatta entries as a result of USRowing's partnership. Now we have the distinct pleasure of welcoming the 2015 Convention to Philadelphia and our own Boathouse Row. We cannot wait to celebrate all things rowing with convention participants in one of the most iconic and historic rowing venues in the world."

More information regarding registration and hotels will be available in the coming year at www.usrowing.org.

About the Schuylkill Navy

Formed in 1858, the Schuylkill Navy is the oldest amateur governing body in sports in the United States. Today, it consists of 15 Member and Associate Member Clubs located along the Schuylkill River. Many of these are located along historic Boathouse Row. Originally formed to prohibit the then-common practice of wagering on races, the Navy's restriction of its contests to amateurs largely contributed to clarifying the distinction between amateur and professional sport as it is know today.
