2016 National Selection Regatta 1

USRowing is committed to fair play. All athletes participating in selection for, and competing as a member of, all U.S. national rowing teams must be in compliance with United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), International Olympic Committee (IOC), United States Olympic Committee (USOC), World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), FISA and USRowing rules and requirements relating to banned substances, including but not limited to undergoing testing and obtaining and maintaining current therapeutic use exemptions as needed. Failure to adhere to anti-doping rules and requirements may result in an athlete losing eligibility to compete for the United States.

Location:
Racing will be conducted on Lower Otay Reservoir at the boathouse of the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA (2800 Olympic Parkway, Chula Vista, CA 91915). NSR participants will not have access to locker rooms or showers on-site. Restrooms will be available.

Racing Format:

Please see Appendix E of the 2016 Senior Selection procedures for descriptions of the 6-lane progression system that will be used for this event, as well as camp invitations based upon performance.
Time trial distance is 1,900 meters.

Eligibility:

  • All Olympic Hopefuls must complete the USOC Games Registration in order to be eligible for the Olympic Team. For information on how to register, please visit the Olympic and Paralympic Hopeful Fact Sheet
  • All competitors must have completed the USRowing ECG and Health Screening Requirement.
  • All competitors must be current Championship Members of USRowing. To renew your Championship Membership, go to www.usrowing.org and click on “Join/Renew,” or contact member services at 1-800-314-4ROW.
  • All competitors must have completed the USRowing Anti-Doping Acknowledgement and have a current signed USRowing liability waiver on file. This acknowledgement and waiver can be signed at membership.usrowing.org

Athletes Meeting:
The athlete meeting will be held at the Olympic Training Center boathouse in front of the national team bays (far side of boathouse) on March 21st at 7:30 am. You or your representative MUST attend the meeting or you will be scratched from competition.

Tentative Practice Schedule:

The first opportunity for NSR participants to practice on Otay Reservoir will be Thursday, March 17. Participants may not unload equipment or have access to the lake or boathouse prior to that day. Please follow the practice times listed below and check in with USRowing staff on site for practice traffic patterns and boat storage. Boat scales for test weighing will be open 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after scheduled practice times.

Please note: No wake during practice times. There must be a launch on the water during practice hours. Coaches may sign up for a launch on the signup sheet posted at the Boathouse. If you do not have a coach available to marshal you and there is not another launch on the water, USRowing will supply a safety marshal to monitor you.

Lightweights:
USRowing will follow FISA weights for all lightweight competitors.
A rower may compete in lightweight rowing events if he/she meets the following criteria:

  • A lightweight men’s crew shall have an average weight not exceeding 70 kg. No individual lightweight male rower may weigh more than 72.5kg.
  • A lightweight male single sculler may not weigh more than 72.5 kg.
  • A lightweight women’s crew (excluding coxswain) shall have an average weight not exceeding 57 kg. No individual lightweight female rower may weigh more than 59 kg.
  • A female lightweight single sculler may not weigh more than 59 kg.
    Lightweight rowers will be weighed wearing only their racing uniform on calibrated scales not less than one hour and not more than two hours before their first race of each lightweight event in which they are competing, each day of the competition.

Parking:
All vehicles must park on the south side of the Boathouse. Boat trailers may park along the dirt access road behind the boathouse. This may change, so please check the website and on-site for more information. Emergency vehicles will need to have a clear path from the paved road all the way to the boathouse. Any vehicle not following the outlined parking rules, parking signs on site, or staff instructions will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Boat Storage:
All boats will be stored outside on personal slings or on club trailers. There is no rack space available at the facility and visiting competitors will not have access to boat bays. Please be mindful of emergency access roads and walkways. Equipment that is blocking a path may be moved.

  •  Entry Fee: $25 per seat
  • Entry deadline: Monday, March 14, 2016 at 10:00am EST
  • Register will open shortly on Regatta Central at www.regattacentral.com
  • This event is open to all collegiate, club, and unaffiliated athletes. Junior national team candidates will not be considered.

As outlined in the 2016 Rules of Rowing:

  • All competitors must be citizens or nationals of the United States
  • No competitor may wear the uniform of the U.S. national team during competition
  • Use of national team colors on oars is prohibited

  • Take Interstate 5 South
  • Exit onto Route 54 East
  • Merge onto Interstate 805 South
  • Exit at Olympic Parkway 
  • Turn left onto Olympic Parkway
  • Continue approximately 8 miles and turn right onto Wueste Road (first light after you pass the main entrance to the Olympic Training Center)
  • Boathouse is approximately .5 miles on left hand side of Wueste Road
