PRINCETON, N.J.CanAmMex_Junior_Team_Photo_-_row2k_Rowing_Picture_of_the_Day – Mexico will be the host country for the 2015 CanAmMex Regatta, USRowing announced Wednesday.

The regatta, which brings together junior rowers from the United States, Canada and Mexico will be held July 6-13 and will be sponsored by the Mexican Rowing Federation. All training and racing will take place at the 1968 Olympic venue in Virgilio Uribe in Mexico City.

The Virgilio Uribe course is an artificial venue that was built for the rowing and canoeing competitions in the 1968 Olympics. Racing will be contested in twelve events, including the men’s and women’s youth single sculls, men’s and women’s youth double sculls, men’s and women’s youth pair, men’s and women’s youth quadruple sculls, men’s and women’s youth four with coxswain and men’s and women’s youth eight.  Rowing Canada Aviron is still finalizing details to ensure this is a high quality event, said USRowing Junior National Team Development Coach Steve Hargis.

“The U.S. team comes out of the high performance camp and is phase two of the camp,” Hargis said. “The CanAmMex regatta serves two purposes. The first is to bring together each country’s top developmental junior athletes, coxswains and coaches for a friendly, yet high-level competition, and second, this regatta provides a life opportunity for its participants and serves as a cultural experience,” Hargis said.

“For many, CanAmMex will be an important step in development toward future junior national teams, under 23 and senior national team opportunities.”
