Is Your Club As Safe As It Could Be?

USRowing is asking all rowers, coaches and coxswains to get involved in the safety of their boathouse and organization. And we’ve made it easy for you to do so.

USRowing and the Philadelphia Insurance Company have developed a new tool for all rowing programs to assess their safety policies and programs. On the home page (for a short time) of the USRowing web site in the Organization section, you will find the Peril Assessment Scoring System (PASS).

This questionnaire is to be filled out by your club officer or coach and once completed,  it will score your overall safety program.  This questionnaire covers ALL aspects of your program, from launches to potential cooking facilities!   It is designed to get programs thinking about their practices and policies and to make sure they are getting implemented.

No penalty - it is not a punitive system. There is NO relation between insurance rates and score on the questionnaire, this is designed to help you and your organization get safe and stay safe.  There is also a reference library where you can find more about safety.

The program was originally designed for health clubs and other fitness facilities to keep them aware of the issues that may affect their operations. Our insurance carrier, Philadelphia Insurance Company, wants to make this tool available to the entire rowing community, whether you use the insurance offered by USRowing or not.

How to do this - one club officer submits the online questionnaire but ANYONE is welcome to look at the questions by clicking the downloadable copy and discussing it with the appropriate club officer.  We urge you to get involved and have your club participate.

We hope that all USRowing member organizations will take the time to answer the questions and then focus on areas where there may be deficiencies in your safety program.

Please help your organization. Ask your club officers or directors to take the questionnaire and make the necessary improvement. We care about the safety of all rowers and coaches.
