USRowing to pleased to announce the results of the 2016 USRowing election. After weeks of voting, the six association governance positions – four on the Board of Directors and two Referee Coordinator positions – have been filled.
PRINCETON, N.J. – USRowing is pleased to announce the results of its 2016 election. After weeks of voting, the six association governance positions – four on the Board of Directors and two Referee Coordinator positions – have been filled.

Individual members in the respective regions conducted voting for the candidates for regional positions. Voting for the Female and Male Vice Chairs to the Board of Directors was conducted among the full-privilege individual members of the association (Championship Members). In total, 981ballots were cast.

Elected to a second-term as Female Vice Chair to the Board of Directors is Erin O’Connell.

O’Connell first joined the Board of Directors in December of 2010 and was elected Board President in March of 2014. A former coxswain and then coach at the University of Washington, O’Connell served on the NCAA Women’s Rowing Committee.

Elected to a third term as the Male Vice Chair is Jim Dietz.

Dietz was first elected to the Board of Directors in 2010 and has served as the Male Vice Chair the last two terms. A 50-year member of USRowing and a former national and Olympic athlete and coach, Dietz is the head coach of the University of Massachusetts.

Elected as Mid-Atlantic Regional Representative to the Board of Directors is
Joe Manion. Manion is a former collegiate and national team athlete and has served as a volunteer in rowing as a coach, referee and member of multiple regatta staffs.

The Midwest Regional Representative position has been filed by Willard Donoho. A business and development specialist, Donoho has successfully managed a wide range of business initiative projects in the areas of web site development, strategic planning, marketing and sales and systems implementation. He rowed at the University of Minnesota. He previously served in six different leadership positions including president of Minnesota men’s crew, the university’s sports council and president of the Ohio Women’s Hockey Association.

Two referee coordinator positions were filled as part of the 2016 election.

John Musial was elected for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Referee Coordinator position. A longtime member of the USRowing referee corps, Musial has worked at every level of the sport from competitor, volunteer to organizer and referee. He currently serves on several boards and regatta-organizing committees.

Elected to the position of Midwest Regional Referee Coordinator is Derek Blazo. As a longtime member of the Midwest region and a 25-year USRowing member, Blazo has worked regattas all over the Midwest region, in addition to numerous USRowing national regattas.
