The Institute for Rowing Leadership at Community Rowing, Inc. along with the national governing body for rowing in the United States, USRowing, today announced the early decision members of the Class of 2017- Advanced Certificate in Rowing Leadership program.

Brighton, MA — The Institute for Rowing Leadership at Community Rowing, Inc. alongCRIIRL with the national governing body for rowing in the United States, USRowing, today announced the early decision members of the Class of 2017- Advanced Certificate in Rowing Leadership program. Three fellows have been accepted for the Class of 2017, the sixth to join the IRL. This class will join four previous classes of alumni changing lives through rowing while working in capacities throughout the rowing world and a fifth class of fellows on pace to graduate in June.

The early application pool was one of the most competitive to date with three women selected and enrolled as members of the Class of 2017, with all united by their passion for the life changing impact that rowing has had for them and will for those they coach.

Glenn Merry, CEO of USRowing said, “What the IRL is offering its fellows is unprecedented among our rowing community. Furthermore, I am very excited to see three female fellows excited to invest in themselves as leaders already enrolled for the Class of 2017. USRowing believes that this type of education, leadership development, and hands on training is critical to the development of the sport within our country. With a high demand for qualified coaches throughout the country, the IRL gives an opportunity to develop those looking to fill those needs.”

The Advanced Certificate in Rowing Leadership program is a twelve-month, intensive “active learning” experience. Fellows attend daily classes taught by top-level instructors and coaches from universities including Harvard University, Brown University, Boston University, and Northeastern University. Before and after classes each day, fellows put their knowledge into practice through a mentored assistant coach program, coaching with world-class coaches in youth, collegiate, and pre-elite level rowing programs on the Charles River and throughout Boston.

“Every year selecting fellows from the applicant pool is a difficult process as there are always talented applicants that are not offered admission”, said CRI Director of Coaching Education Matt Lehrer. “We could not be more excited to have these three talented women joining the program as each brings a unique perspective. Our sport needs strong leadership at all levels and I am looking forward to seeing the passion of this group channeled to change lives for the rest of their coaching careers. We look forward to adding more fellows to complete the Class of 2017 at the March deadline to serve as leaders in the rowing community for many years to come.”

The IRL Advanced Certificate in Rowing Leadership program accepts applications twice annually with a regular admission deadline of March 14th, 2016 and a deadline for early decision applicants in January.
