BOSTON, Mass. – Current and past U.S. Olympians were among a packed audience of rowing enthusiasts that gathered Wednesday at WGBH Boston studios for a special “sneak peek” viewing the PBS American Experience documentary of The Boys of 36.

The hour-long documentary is based on the 1936 University of Washington men’s eight that won gold at the Olympic Games in Berlin and is the subject of Daniel James Brown's New York Times bestseller “The Boys in the Boat.”

Brown was on hand to view the film and participate in a panel discussion with American Experience producer Mark Samels and filmmaker Margaret Grossi.

The Boys of '36 is scheduled to premiere August 2, 9-10 p.m. ET, on PBS in conjunction with the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and the 80th anniversary of the miracle crew’s triumph.

The broadcast of The Boys of ’36 will be accompanied by a series of screening events across the country, many in partnership with USRowing.
