    Semifinals and finals were contested and champions were made at the 2016 USRowing Youth National Championships on Saturday. Approximately 70 athletes donned gold medals with all 18 a finals raced directly after the finish of semifinals.

  • Semifinals Set at 2016 USRowing Youth National Championships

    Heats were held throughout a breezy Thursday as the 2016 USRowing Youth National Championships got underway. The largest ever held, 411 boats raced down the course on Mercer Lake to compete for national titles in eighteen events. A revised race schedule will see racing continue Saturday morning with semifinals beginning at 7 a.m. A, B and C finals will begin at 12:15 p.m.

  • Row to Rio: Making a Dream Come True - Austin Hack

    Austin Hack has always had a dream, one in which he finds himself in a critical moment and in a critical situation. He lived that dream on May 24 at the Final Olympic Qualification Regatta in Lucerne, Switzerland. As stroke of the U.S. men’s eight, Hack set the rhythm for the crew rowing behind him and helped lead them to victory and a qualified spot on the 2016 Rio Olympic schedule. Listen to what that moment meant to Hack, how he found rowing, what it was like to row at Stanford University and one of the more defining moments of his young life in a video interview done following the conclusion of the qualification regatta and prior to winning bronze in 2016 World Rowing Cup II on the Rotsee race course.

    Standing on the finish line dock on the Rotsee race course in Lucerne, Switzerland, the U.S. men’s eight huddled together and listened to Alex Karwoski speak. The message was a simple one, Karwoski said. They had just wrapped up a five-medal day for the United States at the 2016 World Rowing Cup II with a bronze medal in their event. The goal for Rio qualification was met in the men's eight, and medals had been won as a team - enjoy it tonight, then go back home and get to work.

    The opening day of competition at 2016 World Rowing Cup II saw U.S. crews in new combinations and several Rio-qualified lineups testing their speed against a tough international field. The last major international competition before the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, the event provides that chance to “shake out the cobwebs” and sharpen up. Highlighting competition on Friday, both U.S. entries of the women’s pair and women’s single sculler Gevvie Stone (Newton, Mass.) won their heats to advance to the semifinals, while the U.S. men’s four advanced directly to the final with a second-place finish in its heat.
